flying to miami and combining disney and universal
Has anyone flown to Miami, stayed for a few days and then travelled up to orlando? Due to flight prices this is an option we're considering but dont fancy the drive straight away so thinking of making it part of the holiday.
Also what's the cheapest may to combine disney and universal? We feel like there's still things we havent seen of disney but haven't done universal. We have 2 girls who will be 13 and 10

We stayed in Miami for four nights and then drove up but only did Universal and a few non park days. Also done Miami and then Cape Coral for two weeks. Would recommend getting a taxi to and from airport and then pick car up on day you drive to Orlando as parking isn’t cheap and both hotels we stayed at didn’t offer it so would have had to find on road nearby. We loved Miami and on both occasions found it a lovely start to the holiday with loads to do and our two were similar age first time we went

The cheapest way to combine Disney and Universal is to do mostly Universal with a couple of days at Disney for the must dos, since the 14 day ticket for Universal is much cheaper than the Disney one. But really, there's no cheap way to do both. The tickets are expensive no matter which way you approach them.

We’re flying into Miami, staying in Miami Beach for a night and picking up a car there the next day before driving up to Orlando for 9 nights. Then driving back to Miami via a few nights on the beach near Naples and the Everglades. Dropping the car off back in Miami Beach and spending a couple more there before flying home again.
Looked at hiring a car for one day to do the initial drive and then picking up another after Disney/ universal but worked out far cheaper to get one for the whole trip even taking parking fees etc into account. |

Flown into Miami a few times but never stay there, don’t particularly have any interest in doing so. We do however pick up the car when we land and drive an hour up the coast for a good nights sleep and get on the road the next morning, stopping at the beach for some brunch. We’re doing Disney & Universal (and D.C.) but have 14 day tickets for both so no help there (2 nights Hard rock and 3 nights Disney before moving to a villa)

We fly to Miami and drive directly to Orlando, if you want a few nights in Miami do it at the end of your holiday that way you can use the jet lag to your advantage and get to the parks early.

We love Miami Beach. We know we’re on holiday when we’re relaxing in our favourite restaurant pretty much after dumping our bags and showering!
It’s a lovely start to the holiday and we tend to make our way up to orlando after a few relaxing days. As per a previous post, don’t pick up the car until you’re leaving. You won’t need one in Miami Beach so it’s a complete waste of money

It’s Matador Room. Sitting out on the terrace with all the twinkling lights is just beautiful
We never feel too tired when we we arrive either
