Anyone been changed from LGW to LHR?
Due to fly with BA LGW-TPA on 01/07. Just looked and flights up to then from LGW no longer available only those from LHR. Fully expecting an email any day to say it’s been cancelled which negates us paying balance and still holding out any hope. However, just wondering if they might move departure to LHR so that we still pay balance?

No I checked my flights earlier today, and they are both still Gatwick (domestic night before Orlando). However they might just be cancelling flights up to the end of June at the moment.
I am pretty sure I have also managed to dummy EDI-LGW-MCO flights since the announcement about Gatwick was made. I am just not sure they can officially do anything until the end of the redundancy consultation period. |

I didn’t think they’d actually confirmed the move away from lgw yet. Have I missed something?

The reason no flights to Tampa show up for June is that they have either probably all been cancelled or just been withdrawn from sale until they know whether travel would be allowed then they will show up as bookable. It's the same for direct MCO flights You can book any time from 1st July to MCO and TPA going from LGW though.

Yeah I've looked at dummy bookings for next year (man-mco) and it's still 747s configurations, which suggests there yet to update systems.

BA has not (yet) announced a permanent withdrawal from LGW, but all its operations there are currently suspended with no planned date announced for resumption, and internal emails reported warning it may not happen.
Given that LGW is being hit hardest with the planned job cuts at BA, with over 60% of cabin crew already set to go, it will be interesting to see what will be left of the flying programme there, if it continues at all. Protecting LHR slots is everything for BA. |

I spoke to someone at BA the other day as we were due to fly with them in early June (not to Orlando, but from Gatwick)
I was advised they are starting to work on cancelling June flights, and that they would be done in order - domestic, short haul, long haul. Sure enough a few days later we got an email advising our flights had been cancelled. I imagine that once June has been fully dealt with they will start to look at July. At the time I had the conversation we were due to pay our balance the next day and was told this had been pushed out by a fortnight. The cancellation happened before the new due date.

Until BA officially announces a confirmed pull out of Gatwick it is still going to fly from there in the future. BA is probably using the threat as a stick to get what it wants from its workforce.
Nobody knows where the redundancies will come from with BA either. They will be aiming to reduce their wages bill and with only statutory redundancy pay in the table they can get rid of some of the higher paid staff members at LHR who do not work full time at a much reduced costs that what they could have done in the past. BA now have all the cards on their side and the unions this time around have very little bargaining power at all. The most they can do is accept reduced pay and conditions to limit the number of redundancies.
