I prick them all over with a fork, wrap in foil and cook on a lower heat for about 90 minutes. I then unwrap them and cook for a further thirty minutes. Always a two hour job for a baked potato for me.

I have 2 methods; 1. wrap each potato in foil, cook on about 160 for 2.5 hrs and then cook for 30 minutes without the foil. 2. Cook the potatoes in the microwave for 10 minutes and then uncovered in the oven for an hour.
My hubby always moans about the amount of electricity that's used to cook a jacket potato! |

I’ve been cooking them in the halogen oven. Washed and pricked just sitting on the rack.

Former chef here and I used to work for Spud U Like
When I cook baked potatoes at home I use Roosters , the largest I can find, either the loose ones or the 4 pack from Tesco. I usually just cook one at a time I stab the potato a few times with a metal skewer I put the potato into the oven, directly onto the oven rack. I don't use a baking tray I cook the potato at 200 degrees for approx 1 hour. After 1 hour I check the potato, if its still a bit hard in the centre I put it back for another 15 minutes. When its cooked, I cut it in half and fluff out the inside. |

I bought some Mcain frozen jacket potatoes, never tried frozen ones before but they came out perfect, I only did one and it was 4 minutes in the microwave, really nice fluffy potato too, ok they may cost slightly more than buying fresh ones but 4 minutes in the microwave instead of hours in an oven is a no brainier, if I want it crispy I stick it under the grill for a couple of minutes when it's cooked. I'm hooked on them now as it's so quick and easy .

I use a Remoska (not much help to the OP I know) that takes about an hour and gives a great crispy skin. If I’m doing something else at the same time in the oven, I microwave them for about 6/7 minutes, wrap in foil and bake at 200 degrees. Unwrap for the last 15 minutes.

I do 3 mins each side in the microwave (well pricked)
Then oil and salt on the skin, and into a hot oven, don’t take long then
