Our two daughters were regular visitors to Ikea when first setting up homes and money was a bit tight. Always good quality and still in everyday use. You could always rely on all the bits being in the box as well unlike good old MFI. The other good thing about them is that stuff is usually in stock and you don't have to wait 6 months for delivery.

Sadly our local branch in Coventry city centre closed for Covid and won't reopen again. Wrong business model maybe in a city centre and the lifts were always a pain getting back to the parking level.

Disney Springs did pinch the idea of marking parking bays with green and red lights from them I guess?

Student housing now beckons I guess and at least the students won't get lost getting to their room with all the directional arrows on the floor

Mick

Bark from B&M is half the price of B&Q. We only found that out when we had bought 6 bags from B&Q.😐

I want to visit Ikea, but for the smallest things! I’m gonna give it a couple weeks/a month, my nearest are purley or lakeside - both areas would be absolute havoc!

Well you do know what MFI stood for, didn't you?

The first ever car park that I saw with those red and green lights was at gunwharf key in Portsmouth - very useful!

The ring road was bad enough but then to put an Ikea in a vertical arrangement instead of out of town was just bonkers.

Hated going there.

BB

I'm sure that you're alluding to a naughtier version of Mullard Furniture Industries.

There was a riddle going round in Maggie's days about one of her cabinet ministers who was, as we might say, engaged in extra-marital hobbies. Won't name him because of libel laws but...

Q. What's the connection between xxxxx and MFI?
A. One loose screw and the whole cabinet falls apart.

Mick

Yes, just as good. I can’t tell the difference on the garden from where I ran out of the B&Q stuff and then carried on with the B&M stuff.
