Redundancy Advice
Hi All
I've been told my job is at risk - 7 of us down to 3, they have given us new job profiles but cannot give any specifics of workload etc as they basically haven't got a clue. We know there is too much work for the 3 that will remain but this a pure cost cutting exercise so they are not bothered. I'm not sure I want to stay, however, they are only offering statutory redundancy pay which for someone who has worked there for 16 years is woeful. Just after some advice on what questions I should ask as I know they offered another employee an enhanced package only a few weeks ago - I would like to negotiate a better package but I'm at a loss of how to go about this.and would knowing about the other employee count for anything. Also I get a car allowance if for example the redundancy was confirmed by the end of March and I was allowed to leave then, would I still get my car allowance for duration of my notice - I got it on mat leave if that helps. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it would depend on whether they want people to work their notice or they want to pay PILON. If I remember my DH's redundancy he had to negotiate his Car Allowance to be included in the PILON.
As for enhanced payment, again this will depend on whether anyone volunteers for redundancy I would think. If you get 4 who are willing to accept statutory redundancy they won't need to make the other 3 redundant, they would just redeploy.

Hi,
I would agree with the above. Your best bet is to see if they will offer voluntary redundancy and if so, at an enhanced rate. Is there any chance of being redeployed or retrained elsewhere in the company? Is this something that you would want to do? If so, you don't want to accept PILON as that will give you no time to secure a new position. Make sure that you understand the impact to any benefits that you have e.g Pension contributions, medical cover, car allowance, holidays owed, bonus (if it is due to be paid soon) etc Sometimes you can negotiate some additional help for you to secure a new job elsewhere.. years ago I got my company to pay for me to do Prince II and ITIL training to boost my CV as part of my redundancy package. They did this as they could secure cheaper training than I could and lose it in training budget rather than redundancy budget... Good Luck |
