Appealing secondary school place
I remember a thread about this last year and I think there was some good advice given on there. But we haven’t got our 1st or 2nd choice school. So I’m going to go down the appeal route to hopefully get our 2nd choice school. The main reason is we’ve had a lot of issues with my son this year, and he’s had a lot to deal with already this year, and with more upset to come. And I feel he will get the emotional support he needs from the second school ( which I wanted to put as 1st choice, husband disagreed so we put as 2nd, husband has now left, and I think if we had put it as 1st choice we would have got it). I am already working with the educational officer that is based at that school, with my son. So we already had a plan in place to get my son the support he needs. Any help or advice, will be greatly received.

We appealed our eldest sons secondary school allocation many years ago so I’m
Not sure how relevant my advise might be. However for what it’s worth we used the Schools Appeal Service which is one of those specialist firms that help with school appeals and we won. So as far a we’re concerned it was the best £800 we could have spent 😊 Best of luck with your appeal Edited at 07:42 AM. |

The first thing to do is to get your son on the waiting list for this school. This is separate to appealing but there is often movement.

Is this the thread you are referring to
https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho... php?t=1070857 Best of luck and hugs for what I know is a difficult day. my dd is now in yr7, and we went through the appeals process unsuccessfully. luckily the allocated school was our 2nd choice, and a good school, and she is happy there. I still feel sad that she wasn't able to go to her first choice which is walking distance with her friends though. |

We went to appeal and then my DD decided ot to bother... She got kept on a waiting list and did get offered a place but she settled into her new school really well. It's not the school I would have chose (it is our nearest) but she is happy and thriving and I think that is more important than anything else. I just thought I would tell you this just in case it doesn't got the way you want.
I know there is a lot of stress on your children at the minute. My DD was facing a lot of stress last year and was distraught initially because her friends weren't going but she is happy at her new school. I would try and downplay the situation and talk about what is positive about the school he got into just in case |

There’s an excellent article on the BBC website about what to do:
