Our central heating guy said never to turn these fitting to either totally off or totally on as the pin inside can stick , so “off” will still be on.

To the OP, could, you turn down your boiler temperature and the main thermostat, or would you be too cold in the rest of the house?

Jan. I have had the pin stick but hardly ever. If it ever does just unscrew the body of the valve (easy, its only on hand tight not spanner tight) Get a flat bladed screwdriver and 'flick' the pin that sticks up or is depressed in. It will pop up nice and easy.
Then put a miniscule amount of grease on it - not lots! Then work it up and down with the rad valve head.

The rest are as per the picture. Most are from 1986 when the system was fitted. Some have the British Gas logo on which I don't like so may get new heads to replace them when I have 5 mins.
BG dont like fitting them due to cost but I make them!

Loads of online suppliers do them.
Thanks for the info.

Well, we decided to go with these TRV4s for the whole house. All now fitted (chrome) and they look great!
Thanks MrTM for the pointer.

We have a couple of pins that are stuck fully open so switching down the trv makes no difference at all. Do I just need a little force with a screwdriver to free it up to go in again?
