Argos online test for job, fail!
My son who is still looking for a job did a online test for Argos and failed, it was only 8 hours per week but he is desperate. I was with him when he did the questions and he did everything correctly, his answers made sense. I just don’t understand, Primark turned him down, Nandos said they would be in touch in five days and didn’t bother so he emailed them. He’s also waiting to hear from Asda’s. Oldest ds went through his cv and changed it and is now much better. I worked in retail many years ago and it wasn’t this hard! I am looking at apprenticeships but some won’t take him because he has a degree. Please answer with help not to have a go!

It’s so hard for them isn’t it?
When I done an online test for my last retail job, you have to keep in mind...put the customer first...fingers crossed, something turns up soon.

Is there anyone, friend, family member, friend of a friend etc, that could put a good word in for him somewhere?
Sometimes, it’s not what you know, but who you know.

Online tests are IMHO a cop out for recruiters. All the psychological babble. Some stupid algorithm that’s supposed to give good candidate options
I feel very sorry for people trying to get a basic job these days |

It's hard with these online assessments. Our daughter did quite a few, and on her third try for McDonald's got an interview, then the job. Just keep trying as jobs come up, even if he's failed before. Hope he gets something soon🤞

Maybe they think he’s over qualified & wont stay long? Has he tried the hotel industry? They have a constant turnover of staff.

He answered the questions in a way where he used his own intuition and didn’t involve the manager. I think he failed because some of the questions said would you speak to the manager and he entered them like he would try to deal with the problem himself. We have asked around, I forgot dh asked in screwfix and he’s also waiting to here from them.

Try BT.
They were having an apprentice drive and they want graduates. He is probably failing because he is too educated, which is a little perverse. My friend's daughter is volunteering at a local primary school. She does have a job, but said using your degree in a school setting is a great addition to your CV. She is doing an afternoon for six weeks. I know our head teacher would be delighted if someone offered to help in school, perhaps in four week blocks? Maybe he would discover a love for teaching. I wish him buckets of luck. Edited at 01:47 PM. |

I used to work at a Co-op Food Centre for just over 7 years.
I had a bit of a financial struggle last year and applied to the company again and had to do an online test before I could even submit a CV...I failed it and they turned me down at the first hurdle!
