Used car with very low mileage..
Would you be put off buying a used car with very low mileage (4900 miles for a 2017 plate).
Years ago when I was looking for my first car my dad would always be wary of them given one of the reasons may have been because it has been off the road ages because of faults with it. Right to be wary or just pessimistic ..😊?

No I would be delighted with low mileage. When I lived in London and had a car my mileage was about 3k a year. Nothing at all wrong with my cars, I just didn’t drive a lot.

Hmm, I'd assume that all those miles have been very short trips, which isn't the best. But I'd not be put off entirely.

It wouldn’t worry me in the slightest. I would change the oil and filter immediately though.

I purchased my car at 3 years old and it only had 1500 miles on the clock. It came with a full dealership service history. It had been a motorbility car and still has less than 20000 3 years later. I would check the service book and the mileage each year should show if it has been sat unused for a long time.

My current car had been sat in Sytners compound for 5 months. Had 9 miles on it!

My DD is about to change her car. Her current one is about 3.5 years old and has under 4000 miles on it.
She only uses it a couple of times per week, driving to the gym or the shops.

My and dh have brought 3 cars over our time together, with low mileage. Never had problems. Just assumed the people beforehand never drove much or far.

i've had my car 6 years now and only done 35000 miles in it. since i started WFH a couple of days a week (and biking in at least once a week most of the year) i do maybe 4000 miles a year in it, maybe less. its all paid off now, so i plan on keeping it until it starts becoming unreliable, which will hopefully be at least another 10 years...
so yeah, low mileage isnt generally a sign of having the speedo fiddled with, some of us just don't use our cars that much! is speedo tampering still a thing? i would have thought modern cars with digital displays kinda make it harder to tamper with? |
