Mobile Weaning help

Hey
I've started weaning our 6 month old son but I'm really struggling to think of safe finger foods alongside using pouches and blending food any help would be amazing 🥰🥰

Anything is safe except whole nuts and honey.

Banana is a good one to give whole, it splits into 3 quite easily if you kind of push your thumb in the top which makes it really easy to hold.

Then batons of cooked veg, toast, strips of meat to gum on. Anything really as it’s all good practice for their coordination and learning to chew.

I found it depended on the child. My first was absolutely useless at weaning. Was a nightmare as she gagged/chocked on basically everything. I gave her banana and she still couldn’t manage it.
So I blended most stuff and used jars a lot cos she was fussy.
I also used the baby cereal by ages as they got more challenging to eat. Just kept changing the consistency of the blended food, little pasta from Morrison’s was also good. She managed alright.
My second has always been good at eating. She just had what her sister was having at the time (15months between) and she was fine but she didn’t have the reflux thing her sister did.

I have blocked out weaning. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Glad I can just give them anything now.

Have you looked at some of the apps for ideas? The Baby Led Weaning cookbook has some great stuff in there. Also there are the Ella’s kitchen books and app which have some ideas. I found a cheesy eggy bread recipe on there that mine loved when first weaning. There are plenty of You Tube videos about with ideas too. But you can give them pretty much anything as long as it’s in big chunks. I used to give mine toast, strips of meat (they would gum them rather than chew which was yuck but it gave them the idea), loads of fruit and steamed veg, chunks of potato etc. Good luck!

Hi there, not sure if you've come across this website but its brilliant and talks about all steps through weaning with a lot of suggestions of finger foods.

Best of luck. I often found d soft pieces of crustless bread was good for them to hold and to dip into the meal. Also plain rice cakes are great as well as loads of fruit and veg in the attached booklet. I think the finger foods info is on pages 30-40.

Ah ok thanks so much! The choking just scares me but I know the gag reflex is important to learn for them.

Have you done a paediatric first aid course? I did one when both my kids were small and I felt it helped me to feel like I would be prepared in the unlikely event of a choking incident.
