Also, have you thought how you will get to Universal? Taxi? Uber?

The people saying they wouldn't stay at AKL without a car: I stayed there for 2 weeks in May 2017 without a car (we were moved there from CBR), and I was a little bit worried as I kept seeing things about buses not being frequent and everywhere taking ages to get to, but we had zero problems. The longest we had to wait was 25 minutes on our first night and that never happened again, we never waited more than about 7 minutes for a bus. Nowhere felt that much further to get to.
To get to Universal we caught an uber and it was about $20 which was half the price of a taxi.
I probably wouldn't pay to stay there myself but that is purely because the theming of the resort doesn't appeal to me (I chose AKL as a move from CBR for my partner) and not to do with anything else.

In response to the actual question about quotes I agree with everyone else... definitely wait until free dining is released, you will save a fortune. I booked free dining with a £50 deposit and I have checked the prices now there is the free night offer on and it's nowhere near as cheap due to limited rooms and the ones I am looking at only having 2 free nights included not 4.

I also wouldn't book with virgin holidays, stupidly expensive and, as others have said, poor service

Thanks for your helps everyone.
I think the consensus is to wait - unless I've misunderstood

We stayed at POR for 10 nights & Cabana Bay for 4 last time we went so I'm not sure if we would do that again to save travel to & from Universal. The idea was to get prices & then see if I could talk my husband into it (he's almost there, it's just the price that's holding him back). Once he's on board we could make firm decisions & book. The fact you've all said wait means I won't broach the subject with him till free dining comes out.

We got a great deal with Virgin last time we went as my friend worked for them & we used her staff discount but I'm beginning to think we could have done it cheaper.

Many thanks for all your help.

Give Mattie at My Magic Holidays a call for a quote if that will help get your husband on board. They'll add on the free dining (or whatever offer comes out) if you want to book before release 😊
