Mobile 2 handbaggage 2 check baggage?

Has anyone ever booked separately as a family... We only ever take 2 suitcases between the four of us so I am considering booking with BA for 2 of us handbaggage only and 2 checked baggage to save some pennies... anyone think of anything that would cause a major problem that I haven't thought of?

Thanks

Only thing to look out for is the liquids rule! Knowing how genourus the hand luggage weight it I would condsider taking hand luggage only and buying what I can carry there

My only thought would be sitting together, as would it be two seperate bookings? Unless you were planning on booking seats?

As above, you would need to make 2 separate bookings.

Unless you have status & benefit from free or early seat selection you will need to pay if you want to reserve seats.
If you don't want to pay, those on the booking with checked luggage can select their seat for free at online check in.
Those on the hand luggage booking will be allocated a seat at online check in; if you don't like the allocated seat or want to move nearer to your other family members, I believe you can't move seats even at check in unless you pay the seat booking fee.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I jumped on the cheap Heathrow- Tampa bandwagon last night so we all have checked baggage and seat reservations now so doesn't matter anymore.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
