Mobile Savis lightsabers and flying home

Has anyone flown home with lightsabers and if so, how did you take them? They don’t fit in our cases, not sure if we need to get a bigger bag or take them on as hand luggage.

Concerned we could get them back to Gatwick as hand luggage but then not on the connecting flight home.

I saw on a different site that they could take the on as hand luggage but they had to take them apart first. :\

Some airline will allow them as carry on- but I'm not sure if this then counts as your bag

what I did was I removed the hilt, put the blade in the bag they gave you, folded it over and wrapped the strap round it to hold it down make it far easier to carry as hand luggage
