Thessaloniki?

I have been looking at Easyjet to see if I can price up a cheap DIY European vacation for a week in August. I can get flights to Thessaloniki in mainland Greece for around �900 for 5 people. Trouble is I have no idea if this is a holiday resort. Any ideas?
I can get reasonable priced flights to Crete, Corfu, Tenerife, but accommodation is proving difficult.

I'm sure I flew there 20 years ago and said somewhere in Halkidiki. It was lovely

It�s a long time since we visited Halkidiki (over 30 yrs) but I can recall we did enjoy it. Expect big changes since then , as it was a smallish village then, but very nice.

Thessaloniki is a large city with a busy port and airport on the mainland in Northern Greece. The main resorts are in Halkidiki which has three different areas, one of which is Mt.Athos which is a monastery.

If you go, read The Thread by Victoria Hislop as it will give you some historical background. I�d love to visit after reading this book as the town has an amazing history.

We flew into this airport when we stayed at Sani, a beautiful resort in Halkidiki. We loved it. We were 2 adults and 3 children. The resort was especially good for children.
