We saw this today and totally loved it. Excellent acting, especially Hugh Jackman. The music was brilliant, really uplifting. Story was incredibly good and well-told. It was moving, funny, sad, exciting and great entertainment. I love musicals, on screen and in the theatre, and this is up there with some of the best.

Is this based on Barnum?

I can’t wait to see this. Thanks for your review. I know it is a PG certificate, but is there enough to keep a 6 and 8 year old entertained?

Yes it is based on Barnum. It is PG rated, and there is nothing shocking or unsuitable for children in it. But there were only a few children in the showing we went to, although the cinema was full and 2 children in front of us who were around 10 didn't seem to fully understand or enjoy the story. It depends on the child of course, my DD would have loved it at 10 but maybe at 6 or so she would have been not so interested in it

Hoping to see it soon. I do wish they had just done a version of Barnum though - much better music! The production of Barnum running in London at the moment is superb (although Marcus Brigstocke was just OK when we saw him).

Just seen this today. If it doesn't get Oscars then there is no justice. This one of the best films I have seen in a long, long time. Wonderful music - already downloaded the soundtrack - and the choreography is stunning. Jackman is amazing as P T Barnum and is well supported by Zac Efron as Carlyle. (based on Bailey of the circus fame).

All the "oddities" as they are cringingly referred to are brilliantly cast. There is some superb singing throughout which has you toe tapping but for me the "Never Enough" number by Jenny Lind makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Also the acrobatic ballet with Zefron and Zendaya is so beautifully done The CGI is good too with massive elephants and roaring lions.
Can't wait for the release of the Blu Ray
I wouldn't say it is a film that would particularly appeal to children - it's about relationships and respect for each other and above all acceptanceand whilst that is an important theme I don’t think it holds their attention.
