Homeplugs

I currently have two Devolo dLAN 200 homeplugs amazon/Devolo-AVplu...words=homeplug, I am looking to add another, does it have to be the same brand and spec or can I go for something like this, would it work ok? amazon/TP-Link-TL-P...words=homeplug

Thanks

In theory if the new device is compliant with the 'homeplug' specification it should work. However, I am a long-time user of these devices and although they work really well they are notoriously finicky about which devices are on their electrical circuit. If I were you I would stick to Devolo products. They are more expensive but I find them better made. Keep to the same dLan 200 speed as well. I believe that although you can mix speeds, the circuit may default to the speed of the slowest device.

I have been playing about with Powerline adapters this last week.

I originally had 2 x Xyexel PL4211 AV500 adapters which worked great.
Bought a TP-Link PA4030 Kit, which had a further 2 adapters with 3 x rj45 outlets on each adapter, great for TV/Recorder/PS3 or 4. These are also AV500.

They are supposed to be compatible but I could not get them to work with each other. Then one of the Xyexel adapters failed.
I like a challenge, and all should be compatible so I bought 2 TP-Link AV500 adapters with single outlet - I should probably have bought more TP-Link for an easy life.

Initially they did not work together. Read the Dlink manual and then saw the Network name for D LInk was HomePLug AV with a space, TP-Link was HomePLugAV with no space. Luckily TP-LInk have a utility that lets you rename the network - changed it to HomePlug AV with a space and they worked perfectly.

So much for a standard!

Zyexel also have a software utility which is not too good - they are replacing my faulty adapter under warranty. This is a brand I would avoid in future.

I have found the Homeplug's/Powerline adpaters pretty good.
