Cheating slightly as C/P from my planning journal lol. Never mind!
Everyone always dreams of their perfect proposal. For some, it's just at home over dinner. For others in sky writing, for others, on Christmas morning. I had always envisioned getting engaged in Disney. Being a Disney fanatic in every way possible and always secretly wanting the whole Disney wedding thing, it just fit for me. And by the time we had this July 2014 holiday booked, me and my entire family were convinced that that was where Neil was going to propose. Neil had other ideas and has since said that because that's where everyone thought he was going to do it, that's where he would never have done it. And in hindsight, I am so thrilled that he didn't do it there. We booked to go to Kirkby Lonsdale in January of this year for our five year anniversary. I booked us into a beautiful place called the Sun Inn. Highly recommended if anyone fancies an amazing quiet weekend break. It was just amazing. Big comfy beds, fluffy white robes, open roaring fireplaces etc. On my Mum's recommendation (as her and Martin go to Kirkby a lot) I booked us into a restaurant called the Avanti. Again amazing. We had lunch in Settle on the way up and generally enjoyed a wonderful day together in Kirkby Lonsdale. Had a couple of drinks in the gorgeous quaint pubs, did a bit of shopping, then got ready to go out for our meal. This is the Avanti restaurant. We had an amazing meal (no pictures sorry but it was far too dark anyway!) and at the end, Neil went to the loo. Or so I thought. Apparently, he accosted a waiter, told him he was planning to propose and that he needed to get two glasses of champagne to our table in about five minutes. Neil comes back to the table. I still have absolutely no idea what is about to happen. Then he begins, 'We've been together for five years now, and I can honestly say it's been the best five years of my life.' I smile shyly. Neil says things like this sometimes, but usually just when we're cuddling together in bed. Not in the middle of a restaurant. But you know, it's our anniversary. He's bound to be romantic. Right But then... 'And it's from these five years that I know for absolute certain that I want to spend the rest of my life with you.' And he reaches for his coat pocket... Me: My hands clasped over my mouth as he shifts out of his chair and gets down on one knee right there in the restaurant. 'Tracey, will you marry me?' And he produces this ring, this beautiful ring that I can't even believe. I sob even more. This picture is from the next day by the way, I didn't go to this gorgeous restaurant in a denim jacket. The tears fell shamelessly down my cheeks as I just sobbed 'Yes' and gave him a massive hug and kiss! Sorry, I don't have any pictures of us on the night. The Avanti is really dark though so I don't think they would have come out anyway! Right on cue, the waiter comes over with the champagne and then the rest of the restaurant suddenly realises what's just happened and starts to cheer and clap. I'm still sobbing with happiness at the table, Neil's just thrilled that I said, 'Yes.' I stick my hand into the hair showing off my sparkler and a group of women in the corner of the restaurant (think they were celebrating a birthday) suddenly started singing 'Chapel of Love.' It was genuinely the most amazing moment of my life. |

I LOVE all these engagement stories - gives me goosebumps reading them all
Just posted our proposal in the planning journal thread - but briefly - Aaron proposed in front of Rapunzel and Flynn at MVMCP on December 10th 2013 Here is a pic of my ring after we were home and had it re-sized... bless him - he knew my size but the assistant in Tiffany told him to go smaller (huh?!) and it was slightly too small (so had to have breaks when wearing it on our vacation!). We got it re-sized when we were home and this was taken just after we got it back I'd always wanted a Lucida and Aaron said after seeing them it was the one he preferred too...

We got engaged at the Magic Kingdom in September 2012.
We went to Wishes dessert party, watched the fireworks then wandered around the park going on some rides on the way. It was evening EMH that night so the park was pretty empty. On the way out he stopped me just in front of the castle and dropped to one knee and popped the question. I had no idea he was going to do it, we had talked about marriage but I really didn't think he would have thought about proposing in WDW. He had initially planned on proposing before Wishes dessert party, by the rose garden with the photo pass photographer taking pics but I kind of ruined his plan because I didn't want to stand in the line and wait to get photos taken. We did get a photo taken on Main Street on the way out though. (I'm on my phone but hopefully the pic will work) He had already asked my dads permission the month before we were going away and he told my mam so they were back home waiting for the call! I wondered why my mam was so emotional waving me off on holiday haha! |

Worth the Wait
Just to let you know it will be worth the wait I had to wait 10 years for mine (but have 3 diamond ring now) .
You know what men are like they have to do things in there own time and own way and it has to be there idea ( or so they think). My OH is not romantic at all so it was a surprise to find it in my Easter Egg (he was going to make the egg but couldn't find a mould! X) His latest idea is to get married by Elvis on a drive through in Vegas ( like that is going to happen ! ). Going to Florida next Feb so looking to marry on a beach , much better idea. See from your countdown your off to NYC so you never know ? Keep fingers crossed for you , steer him towards Tiffanys its gorgeous and might give him a nudge.xx |

I thought it was about time I join in, after watching all these lovely stories.
Sadly no Disney proposal for me, but we're getting married at Disney so Sam didn't want to go too OTT (Not that, that would be possible when it comes to Disney) We got engaged over afternoon tea, on a weekend away in London. I didn't realise until after that we were placed away from everyone else in a cute corner, they took our tea cups away to bring them out again with all the food. When I turned my cup over there was a ring! EK! I honestly don't think I can tell you what Sam said properly, but it was the most exciting, and shocking moment of my life. I thought I'd cry, but I didn't until I spoke to my Dad on the phone. |

Aww your stories are so so sweet.
My OH and I picked our ring and ordered it together but he said he would wait for the perfect time to propose, which was a total mistake for him because I like to (unintentionally) ruin his surprises by guessing them! Every time we went somewhere or did something I would say "wouldn't it be great if you proposed now in this way" and he would sulk for ages before saying I ruined the surprise! Anyway, he said that he would wait for the perfect time when we went on holiday in Portugal in September. I ended up losing my job and being placed into another and the stress really took it's toll on me and I started to suffer serious anxiety attacks so had to have a month off work. The day I went back I had to go to London for a few days and was really worried about it. He took me to the airport and said "it would be amazing if when you picked me up you got down on one knee and proposed" which he got annoyed with! He pulled into the car park instead of using the drop off point at airport and I told him he was wasting time, but he came around to my side of the car, got down on one knee (I thought he was joking and winding me up so was slightly annoyed!) and then on the 27th August 2013 in the short stay car park of Newcastle airport said "will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" Obviously I said yes and we are getting married on the 26th September, which was handy because I had pretty much been planning the wedding while I was off work so was ready to book! The best part is every time I have to go away for work, I get to go back to the place we got engaged, and I love that. Maybe not romantic to everyone but perfect for me! xx Edited at 10:02 PM. |
