Having done them, my advice is practise... as many versions of the test as you can find online, as often as you can. The question themes are very similar so once you've learned what the test is likely to ask you, you won't feel as pressured in the test. Unfortunately (or fortunately), most primary teaching degrees are 4-11 so during your training you are likely to need at least some of the skills from them, even if in the long term you want to specialise in the very young children.

No has your DD? I have just sent my ucas application and scholarship application off so I need to get these over with. Thinking of booking next week.

When it came to this test she couldn't do it. Or, more to the point, couldn't do it in the time limit. It didn't help that the exam centre she did it in was really noisy with lots of people coming and going which didn't help her concentration.

So she failed it - not by loads - and then I think if you fail a couple more times you are blocked for 2 years. So rather than put all her eggs in that basket she decided to not pursue a career as a primary school teacher, which is a shame.

Given the shortage of teachers they are making it difficult. I don't think she would need that level of maths to teach 4 year olds.
I *think* they may have changed it this year to unlimited amount of attempts. Let her know! Im 99.9% sure they have.

She’s booked for early December. It’s just so difficult for her to find time to practice as she’s preparing for interviews and she has loads of schoolwork too.

She’s also missing days at school to attend the interviews.

Bless her, she’s getting quite stressed.

It has been changed now to unlimited tries but you do have to pay after the third attempt.

I have no idea how I managed to pass the maths test but I did. I spent a lot of time practicing and I made full use of the paper and pencil they allowed when I did mine. I found that by writing them down it made it so much easier. Good luck!

Thanks both, I'll mention it to her, although she has a reasonably good job in insurance now.
