We paid £140 a day - we buy the materials. Took 4 days to do our lounge, but one of the walls needed redoing as it had a reaction to the existing paint. Was happy with the cost.

£150-200 a day, but I have seen some poor quality work done by so called decorators because some don't have the skill and it's an easy job to get into with little outlay on tools.

We are in the process of having the house decorated, and we're being charged about £250 per room, thats for paint (1 or 2 coats as needed), wallpaper in 1 room, and all woodwork, so far they've taken 3-4 days each to complete. We are supplying the paint, but he's supplying all sundries and tools.

That seems cheap to me, wish ours was that price!

Husband is a decorator and is usually around £175 a day. Rates will also vary by area. If you are being quoted a day rate make sure you know what his or her version of a day is ! DH works 8.00 to 4.30 usually. Some tradesmen think 10 til 3 is a day.

I used to charge £12 an hour up to 2012.
Friends still in the business charge £17 an hour at the moment around here.

There are some advantages to living in Cornwall.

Too true 🙄I have new fences being put in & a brick wall taken down, they started yesterday arrived 10.45 as went to the cafe due to the rain & left just after 3 🙄
Did a bit longer today though, he said it’s a weeks work, but judging by his day he means 20-25 hours 🤣🤣

DH charges £150 / £175 per day depending on work, he visits all jobs prior to starting and provides quotes by email or written if the customer does not have email.
He works 9 -5:30 M-F and stays on if he wants to finish a particular area , last week he stayed at one job until 8 pm
He is fully booked until May next year and has just slotted a job in , where the decorator did a terrible job and wouldn’t come back, it’s jobs like these that nearly always lead onto further work .
Last week he went to see a huge job , but realised that the roof was leaking and it would be a huge waste of money to get the job decorated before fixing the roof , he knows that when the customer fixes the roof the potential for work is there as it would have been dishonest to take the money for a job which wouldn’t last .
