Asda to stop selling single kitchen knives
Just reported on the news. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I appreciate the need to tackle knife crime but feel this is ‘punishing’ millions of law abiding adults. Interestingly they will continue to sell multipacks of kitchen knives. Is it a bit of a publicity stunt by Asda?

I think it is a reasonable thing to do combined with age and reasonability checks etc.
Unfortunately it is not the knife itself that commits the crime. .until we can get to.a place where knives are not seen as the norm as they seem to be by so many kids - the best we can do is increase deterrents and sentencing and limit the immediate availability of knives 24/7 in this way. Single knives will still be available in kitchens around the country. If they want them they are available. A step in the right direction for me. But we won't move forward unless all move together. Publicity stunt. Knives are everywhere . These thugs aren't getting their weapons from Asda they just have to look in their cutlery drawer.

can see what they are trying to achieve but pointless when every house in the country has a draw full of knives... hardly difficult to get hold of
mandatory sentence of say 5 years for anyone caught carrying a knife 10 years if you use it, regardless... Edited at 01:12 PM. |

I can not get my head around youths carrying knives.
It terrifies me ! That poor girl who got stabbed in the park ... unprovoked attack... what on earth was they thinking. When I was young, hooligans and thugs carrred knuckle dusters, they were bad enough. Where will this all end? |

Who knows what the answer is, but tougher sentencing is a must. The minute you take a knife out of your house, you have an intent to use it. So sad for all those lovely young people who have died needlessly xx

I don’t imagine the people that are committing the spate of recent stabbings are going into places like Asda to buy their knives. I agree there should be tougher punishments for people caught carrying knives. I just don’t understand how anyone can stab another person - it’s horrifying. Maybe an age limit for buying rather than not selling them ?

Nothing much can happen without more police on the streets. That's where it all went wrong.
