It can be quite slow, done it quite a few times. Prefer Philadelphia as a hub, but it's OK.

that's your regular US immigration
get off plane at concourse F, clear immigration, collect bags, drop bags off, go through security, go down one level to plane train, board shuttle to your next concourse, go up, and to your gate simple as that just note that ATL is a huge airport the F concourse (international) is at the very end. Your plane will taxi for a very long time to get there, so your connection time needs to be quite large. Larger than at any other us airport (except for JFK whichj is a pain) immigration itself can be slow, unless they direct everyone to the automated kiosks, but you can never know in advance expect long lines, and very slow immigration, anything faster and it's a bonus make sure your connection is long enough (2h30 is my very bare minimum at ATL) anything below 2hrs is too tight the vast majority of the time. |

We’ve done it a few times, and as above it’s pretty standard! Fairly slow but no problems really!

We’ve gone through ATL quite a few times - we always allow 3 hrs to get through as you have to queue for immigration and then queue again for security. Remember that with security, you can’t take any liquids through so if you’ve bought anything at duty free over here, it has to go in your case at ATL before you hand your case over again for security.

Immigration time probably depends on what time of year you go and when you land. I have only ever found it quite quick but I think each time I’ve been through there has been a quieter time of year - e.g. Early March, mid October. Never had a long wait there. Last time was 3 years ago though.

We had a 2hr 55 min connection in Aug. It took us over 1 1/2 hrs to get through as our Virgin flight was delayed going to Atlanta. No effort to speed up the proccess by the Immigration Officials, it was the slowest lines ever!
Got luggage ok, and put it through again. Security was a bit slow too. Got to gate with 15 mins to boarding time! Found it stressful, so much so that's put me off flying indirect next time. (We also had a major issue with boarding but that's another story! ) |

Struth, Atl closed off the self-serve kiosks last year as they now use biometrics (face recognition and no prints depending on when you were last in the US), all pax queue for an IO desk. Altho we've, only just, made Atl immigration to our RSW flight in 90 mins (VA late leaving Man) it was a major rush. I'd recommend 2+ hours at Atl.
Have a smashing holiday

Yes, no finger prints this time, just photos so you'd think it would be quicker... !
