Can you recommend a book...

... For my teenage son. He is 13 and hasnt really read a book 'just for fun' . I think there is a big push lately to get our kids reading and he has actually asked for a book . So i have to get the right one!

I have loads of books in the house ( wimpy kids and similar) but i think he is wanting something just a wee bit more grown up.

He is a typical teen , into his bike and rugby.

Any suggestions please ? LILIAN

I know it might be a bit old school but how about the Adrian Mole books? They were always great fun and my brother read them when he was around about that age.

In fact I could fancy reading them again now too!

My 14 year old is a girl, so these suggestions might not work, but she's recently read all the Harry Potters and then all the Narnia series and really enjoyed both sets.

She's not addicted to Twilight but I think that's definitely girly

My son read 'The knife of never letting go' by Patrick Ness last year - he said it's the best book he has ever read (which isn't too difficult as he'd much rather be out on his skateboard or throwing a rugby ball around )

My son (15) is not a reader but he read a few Darren Shan books when he was about 13 and liked them.

hi, Has he ever heard of The Dead, The Enemy and The Fear, by Charlie Higson, Its kinda hard to explain, but its basically about all the adults are overcome with a disease that turns them into zombies, I bought the first one for my nephew as it was my local library no 1 book for 13/14 year olds. and he was totally addicted from the first page, wev both now read all 3 and are eagly waiting for the fourth, a lot of his class friends hav also read it now, it can be a bit gory but i think teenagers love that, Dont just take my word for it tho, google it and read the reviews, Also has he tried the hunger games, with the movie being released this year this is also a great read, aimed at teenagers, let me know how u get on.

THats brilliant reading. I think girls enjoy reading much more. I know i was reading chapter books such as the famous five aged 8.

Keep the suggestions coming, Im flicking between here and amazon, DS is interested in 'the knife of never letting go' so far.

I wish my son had my passion for reading, I am trying to encourage him he is 9 but don't think he is overly interested xxx

Just looked these ones up for my son - think he might like them and would do anything to get him to read.
