Hayley will tell you that she regrets not buying sooner but with a sensible head on we did buy at the right time financially speaking. The one thing that gets me is the travel there and especially back - we did three trips at two weeks each last year and I couldn't face another set of flights this May; one of the many reasons we only have the single trip in September.
If only we were within a couple of hours flight or even drive to WDW then I think we could get much better use our of our points; obviously I would still need the same amount of holiday time please! |

We very nearly bought at BWV 2000ish (might have been '01) but a combination of not being blown away by BW, the rep not pushing more points & used to a lot more space off-site, we decided against it. We only really started to think about it again as our son started to out grow family holidays. So whilst I wouldn't say that we regretted it I'm also not sure that we would buy in today. The current Mk resorts are points heavy & at current Fx rate £120/point, we bought resale at SSR for $67.50/point. You are really committing yourself to future holidays so you also have to factor in the rising costs of flights & passes etc eg we bought in '08 with a Disney 21 day Ultimate priced at £199 that same pass is now £330!
My final thought is don't be "fooled" into thinking that it will save you money because it only saves if you were staying on-site at deluxes anyway & if like us you were off-site, we will be lucky to break even at contract end. SD

My only regret was not buying more when the exchange rate was good. Glad I didn't buy from Disney at our sales talk.and took the time to research resale dvc.
We have saved thousands of pounds since 2009 and our contract has increased in value.

No regrets here, we bought in 2010 and have stayed at Bay Lake, AK Lodge, Hilton ahead and the Grand Californian. Plus we were able to treat Rob's parents to a trip in a treehouse villa which was great.
Next year we are taking our friends and their children and plan to spend a week in a 2 bed at either Bay Lake or possibly Beach Club (depending on availability.) There is no way we could do that if we were paying cash!

Thank you, it's given us a lot to think about.
Admittedly I love having the dining included, so maybe all the time it's around as part of a deal we should stick with it. Eventually I would like to try and stay in a villa etc as well. Equally it's our happy place, we all adore it and knowing that we are going to be back there in less than a year , makes us all extremely happy.

I dont regret DVC but I do regret buying at SSR. Ive only stayed there once and to be fair Ive always managed to book my choice of resort at the 7 month mark. Im so glad I bought at BCV and BWV as those are my fav resorts.
I also regret buying with my awkward unreasonable ex, whose name is still on the deeds - although he doesnt get involved in DVC at all, but would have to be involved if I wanted to buy another small add on, or wanted to sell. As I have a number of small BCV and BWV contracts, changing names on all of them would be expensive. So no I dont regret, but with the wonders of hindsight , Id do things a bit differently.

We have three contracts all bought with cash, as a luxury purchase I wouldn't like to have finance on them. Two we bought in 2007 at over $2 to the £.
My biggest regret is suggesting to DD we visit VGF, that was a very expensive decision, more points added at a massive price with a poor exchange rate |

We bought in January 2015 - quite small - 150 points at the GF.
DH was the driver behind deciding to do it and he doesn't regret it, but I do. We can only go in school holidays for another couple of years and it costs a lot for potentially 2-3 nights at our home resort in peak times. We are using the points this August at two other resorts and managed to get 12 nights, so that's much better. However, when I priced up the same break with DDP to what we have paid and then paid extra for the DDP, its cost us much more via DVC. We may be buying a new house next year with a new mortgage and I think we will probably sell up and use the money for that instead. We may regret it, only time will tell. |

Six years on and no regrets from us (except that we didn't buy earlier).
We had never stayed onsite before buying but now we would hate to stay offsite! We love the flexibility, we stay at a family of 4 in one or two beds and then DH and I stay in studios or 1-beds. Both of our kids have been and stayed with friends at WDW using our DVC which means I know they are staying somewhere nice and safe with transport etc and we could treat them. Sometimes we use free dining and save our points for longer stays in bigger property on other trips. |
