I can't see there will be a big problem with eating and your braces, there are certain things which are tricky, I remember DD being excited to actually bite into an apple (rather than have to cut it up first) after having hers removed but none of my three children who had braces had to avoid food such as burgers etc. They had a couple of days of discomfort after fitting and each time they were tightened when they preferred not to chew too much but otherwise no worries.

My DS has braces and can't bite into apples and corn on the cob. He's only had them for a few weeks and it's getting easier for him to bite and chew but he was sore for the first couple of weeks and struggled with chewing for a few days.

Personally, I know how much my DS hated his braces the first few weeks so I would wait if possible. If it is only waiting for a few weeks until you return it won't make much difference to your treatment and of course there won't be any worries of something happening to the braces while away. My DS had to go back and have one bracket replaced in the first few weeks.

I had braces when i was younger and my most vivid memory is the ache and tenderness in my jaw for a couple of weeks after they were fitted whilst my face/mouth/jaw adjusted to them.

Based on that, see if you can wait til after your hollibobs.

my dd had them at 15...she found them very painful and difficult to eat with...so when ds was told that he would need them a few weeks ago I decided to leave the fitting until after we get back...

My boy had them fitted yesterday! He did manage to eat most of his sausage chips and beans when we were out today, but he was sore after. If you can wait do, if not try not let it stress you too much or spoil your holiday! We fly August next year and my boy is seriously hoping they will be off by then!

defo wait, you might be ok but you might not be - if its that bad it may even take the shine off things, i know it might not sound likely going to the best place on earth but seriously when they hurt they hurt and theres very little that can take your mind of it

My dd was a nightmare for the first 2- 3 weeks, they hurt her so bad, her mouth and gums kept bleeding and she barely ate, lots of painkillers and bongela type things and wax gum strips.
after they settled down she was k and is now able to eat most things, except apples, corna nd crusty bread and chewy meat.

Id wait if its right before so not to ruin the trip.

My dd is in fact having hers off next week after a year with them...hurray!

ANOTHER thing the bongela type paste they sell over there is much better and stronger than we can get here so stock up while on your holidays!
