BA vs VA

I find the on board service pretty much the same on any flight , but having 2 flights cancelled last year one with BA and one with Virgin. My refund with BA took about 3 days , virgin took 6 months

Is this the "Elephant in the room"? no one seems to want to answer what I suspect may be the unpalatable truth in comparing BA and Virgins Policies.
