Very well said. Add on the fact that people on here constantly mention the high cost of supermarket shopping. My car insurance, house insurance, electricity, water, property tax (rates), wifi and mobile phone bills are all higher here in Florida.

Most jobs including Disney servers get health care as part of their generous employment package. $15 an hour is a good wage to hand food over

And taxes are substantially lower. US take home pay is higher for the same wage than here in UK (particularly for states with no income tax), wages seem higher anyway, and sales tax is much lower. Whereas supermarket food is more expensive, many items (cars, electronics, etc) are cheaper. Also those with a decent income get married couples’ joint taxation bands and can enjoy huge tax deductions on the already lower levels for mortgages and other things. Even DVC is tax deductable over there.

Disney servers in table service make substantially more. I met an ex employee who told me they often make more than the manager and the joke was they had the best cars in the car park. Some of them in Signatures can be pulling 100k, but she told me many are well over 50k if full time.
I’d rather tip a higher rate to the person in Long Horn, Chilis etc. I will often tip over 20% in these places but generally stick to 18 max in Disney unless someone has been exceptional.

I worked in the US in hospitality jobs for a few years.
I was being paid a basic hourly wage of $2 something but due to tips I was getting upwards of $1000 a WEEK in the peak holidays. Its much more of a lucrative and a career choice than hospitality in the UK. I'd rather get $2 an hour plus tips than the minimum wage over here. |

I can believe that if you work at Victoria and Alberts, don't think i will ever give a tip like that again in my lifetime (service was next level though we didn't mind)
