Would you use Purple bricks for house sale?

We have had 3 valuations for our house, 2 from local estate agents and 1 from purple bricks. The 2 local agents are charging the same, which will work out around £5200 inc vat, while purple bricks charge a flat fee of £995 (works out at around £1400 with photo extras and vat.) Obviously it’s a huge difference in fees, but I have no experience of Purple bricks and am not sure if it’s worth paying extra for a (possible) better service with a traditional agent?

No I wouldn’t personally. I have dealt with them as a buyer, and they were a nightmare. Booking viewings was really hard, tended to just to open viewings, and you’d then request a time online, and just get it amended to the open viewing time.
Was so much harder than dealing with a normal estate agent

Our neighbours had their house up with Purple Bricks. They moved about 3 weeks ago so I don't think they had any problems.

I don’t know either but it’s a big price difference!

I’ve never come across a competent estate agent (not a dig at anyone, it’s just our experience!) when either buying, selling or renting. As such, i’d be paying the cheapest.

I had a similar experience as Mitch, very hard to deal with as a buyer. Apart from anything else, in a pinch I want to be able to go to the office and speak to someone.

We tend to use a local agent with local knowledge.

Yes absolutely, bought through them and no discernible difference at all. I wouldn’t hesitate at that price difference.

Agreed. Only bought twice and sold once but both times very poor service for the amount of money it cost.

Would you expect your house to sell quickly, is it in a nice part of town, good schools etc etc.

If so, I would be haggling with the estate agents (I love a haggle) they want your business, your in a good position I would imagine.

Just to give you an indication what can happen if you ask, when I sold my last house, the estate agent fee should have been around £2,600. I knew the house would sell quickly as they always do in that particular area, the other element was, mine was only 1 of 2, 5 bedroom houses in that area.

I won’t bore you with the haggle but I eventually struck a deal with one of the estate agents for £750.00. The house sold in no time at all after a lot of viewings and interest.

There is a saying in Cumbria “shy bairns don’t get any sweets”

Get haggling
