Joan makes a lot of bread and sometimes will make a cheese loaf. Toasted for breakfast, a streak of Marmite on the bread then a cheddar cheese spread on top mmmmmmmmmm

I think you need to not think of them as a hot cross bun, they are a cheese roll that has a sticky top.. No fruit and spices involved, get past the name and you're sorted!

I've recommended the HCBs earlier and I also like mackerel pate. But may be a step too far with three competing flavours.

I baked a batch of cheese straws today.

However, prompted by this thread I also baked a batch of cheese AND MARMITE straws too.

And they are also IMMENSE!

My expertise in the kitchen is limited to loading the dishwasher and piercing the film lid a few times However Joan regularly makes the cheese and bacon turnovers (think Greggs) and often uses any leftovers to make cheese straws.

I've just sowed the seeds of adding Marmite next time.

I can see why that combo would work!

That's exactly what I made here for my son's lunch!

A square of pastry with a rasher of bacon placed diagonally across it, a generous handful of extra mature cheddar lumped on top, the corners folded in, brushed with egg and baked. He's a little pastry and bacon fiend so loves them.

I'm a veggie so don't eat them, so made something that I could!

Managed to snag some more today.

Imagine how gutted I was when I offered my son a hot crossed bun and gave him the option of "normal" or cheese and Marmite and he chose the latter!

Kids - ruining our lives since forever.
