Is there such a thing as an NHS dentist anymore?

Hello

I am trying to find a dentist for my 18 and 21 year old but thought I would try to find an nhs dentist for them

My dentist will do nhs up to 18 and then it’s private only

Do I have to start paying for private treatment for them?
They don’t earn much money yet as my daughter is just leaving school and my son is at Uni

If I don’t pay for them, they would not be able to afford to go

Maybe I sound tight but was hoping to pay nhs prices for them

Yes there are, you just have to shop around. My son (18) is currently at a private dentist but this will end soon when he leaves full time education as they don’t take on NHS adults. It’s either find a different NHS one or do the ‘monthly’ private - unsurprisingly everything is pay monthly now☹️

I'm having to travel back to my old dentists 90 minutes away. All the dentists here have a 2 year waiting list for NHS.

North west wales here, we couldn’t find an nhs dentist when we moved here at least not one in reasonable traveling distance, I’ve ended up initially only going once a year for check ups and now I’ve signed up for denplan x

We have an NHS dentist but find them extremely pushy towards paying private. E.G. Last year, I needed a crown which I would have to wait months for on the NHS but if I paid £600 and had it done privately, I could have it done the following week. (At the same place, with the same dentist.) In the end, I needed a crown and a route canal and it was going to cost £1300 ish. Ended up having an NHS extraction instead. Now every time I go, they give me details of a £2200 implant.

You can search on the NHS websitenhs.uk/service-search/find-a-dentist
But then you need to check each website to confirm that they are currently accepting NHS patients. The “Mydentist” practice in our area is accepting adult NHS, it must vary on the individual practice.

NHS dentists few and far between in my area - I think and take on about 1 new patient a year. I am private and have been for years. My kids (13 and 17) Are private too as my dentist only received NHS funding up to age 9.
