Driving long distance in USA, is very easy compared to here. Just boring but I think adrenaline would keep you going. Do you share the driving? You’d both need to stay awake. I’m assuming that would be easier for the kids as they’d sleep most of the trip?
Returning will be easier as it’s daytime & you can stop for a break enroute. Internal flights would be very expensive compared to car hire & even if the cost is the same, the whole process of transferring, waiting around etc would probably take as long as driving. Another option if your schedule allows, is to stay in Atlanta before/after your flights. There’s loads to see/do there that the kids would love. |

I've driven Disney to Lake city, so part of the route, it's fairly easy driving, if uninspiring scenery.
Can't comment on the rest of it. Took me a couple of hours to do that section - from the North outlet mall to Lake City - if that helps get a feel for the traffic in that part. Coming back was similar timing - about 2 hours. HTH Andy Edited at 08:16 AM. |

Thanks everyone for your replies. Nothing was unexpected so that’s good news, though good points to check cross border fees and traffic levels.
London is 4 hours from us (we live 6 mins from Manchester airport) & we’d rather the drive pre flight than post flight. Considered internal but baggage fees seem quite high! May have to be an overnight stop. Fancies St Augustine but still leaves 5.5 hours 🤦🏻

Have you looked at flying to Melbourne (MLB) airport? There are reward flights for there from Manchester, connecting in Atlanta. Probably takes the same time as driving to Atlanta but might be easier?
Depending where you're heading to, you could also try Tampa. |

We've done this on several occasions but we brake the journey up at St Simons Island (just over 4hrs from Atlanta) and then travelled down the coast the next morning.
Had a late night dip in the beach and and an early morning one too. As we were up and about early we got to universal about 1130 on that date.

If you add on internal flights as part of the transatlantic booking the luggage fees are usually waived. It doesn't need to be the same airline just an associated one on the same booking.
