If I give my credit card at reception for any purchases within universal etc, can I pay off every few days, so that i can keep a check on what I am spending.
Also how do Universal charge things like meals, shopping to your account. (like the magic band at Disney) And do you have to give a deposit at check in? I am in positive planning mode! Also bought our one day Magic Kingdom ticket and reserved our day. We are only doing one day as this trip is for Universal and off site. Thanks Sue |

Yes as with any hotel, you can pay off your bill as and when you like.
There is no magic band or similar system at Universal, you will pay for the majority of things as you would normally, by cash or card. The only exception I can think of is charging food and drinks if you eat in the hotel you are staying in. I cannot remember if you can charge hotel gift shop purchases. You can arrange for any purchases you make in the parks to be sent directly to your room. They will put items in the room (or they did pre covid, don’t know about now) rather than have you collect them at the hotel gift shop as Disney does. Edited at 06:19 PM. |

When we went in 2019, we bought things from the big gift shop as you enter the Studios, and charged it back to our room, I only remember this because there was an issue when I went to do it & they had to call the hotel to activate room charging. States here that you get resort wide charging privileges using your room key, which is what we did.

I don't remember leaving a deposit, but they asked if we wanted to have room charging privileges for incidentals.

You don't leave a deposit as such but they do a pre-authorization on your credit card to make sure you have enough funds. It varies by location but usually they hold around $50-$100 per night on your credit card. Don't remember what the exact charge at Universal hotels is but they pre-authorized a few hundred dollars on my credit card and then once I checked out and was actually charged the correct amount, the rest was unblocked and released back to my account within a few days.

Within reason. Disney you have a set limit, when that is reached they take payment automatically that night. I assume Universal will be the same.
