We have BA Amex cards and use them wherever we can but always pay off the balance. The bonus incentive is a good start for new customers and we aim for a 2for1 companion voucher each year. We pool miles from my avios, hubbys avios and hubby's BA exec miles all into my exec household acc ready for that 12 month Anniversary to book Club World seats needing half the miles!
Ps. Yes. Your miles appear when flights are completed.

Edited at 10:50 PM. Reason: ps.

Ah, I see. I think I'll sort out a household account then. As the BA Amex will presumably pay Avios directly to your BA EC account, how do you tend to accumulate other Avios outside of BA? I think a lot of people tend to use Tesco?

That's right.

Also, you could join the Iberian airlines version. You can still combine them with the BA and Avios points. There are some advantages to doing this. One is ifyou are a member of Accor hotels loyalty scheme. You can exchange those points for Avios or BA avios at 1 airmile for 2 Accor points, however, you can also exchange them on a 1-1 basis if using Iberian Avios!

If you are new to the points thing then a useful website is headforpoints it will also point out extra points earning opportunities.

Tesco/ Direct so you're double dipping there - E shopping via Avios website - ATG theatre tickets (good intro deal). Filter all shopping via AMEX if accepted for free - Next Directory - Argos - M&S - Smyths Toys - The Range - Asda - Boots - House of Fraser - Sainsbury etc. Our 12 month 2for1 anniversary is March so Xmas shopping usually tops the miles up.
Yes. The auto miles show on monthly Amex statement and how on target you are for a 2for1
Happy collecting!

I can see me having to have words with DW... she's a confirmed Sainsbury's girl!

Me, DH and DD x2 are all in a ba executive household account and we do surveys with e-rewards to bump this up so 4 e-rewards accounts. DH and I are also in a household avios account (again, signed up to e-rewards so 2 more accounts, I must get a life rather than just surveys!) where we pooled our avios to get a free night in an airport hotel in Miami. We have some avios left which I want to move to BA executive (I want to book a free night at RPR but can't do this via avios, only BA executive) but can't as it is a household account. There is a form on avios to unlink a household account so I filled this in last week and e-mailed it to them. Once our household account is unlinked, we get half the avios points each which we can then transfer to BA executive to add them towards a room at RPR. We can then re-link our avios accounts to a household account again if we want to.

Hope that makes sense
Right, I'm a little further down the line with this now.

We all now have BA EC membership (kids as well) that I have linked as a household account. Myself and DW have our own separate Avios accounts (not linked at the moment) and also our own Tesco Clubcard accounts.

Your advice seems to suggest that it is best to keep the Avios accounts separate and not to link?

You also suggest that you can do e-surveys through BA EC as wells as through Avios?

Final question ! : presumably the best way to go here if you see the Avios e-shop is to pay using an Avios credit card as you will get double the points (or at least points for both)? We're considering getting an BA credit card and/or a Tesco credit card to have as an alternative to an Amex card (although I appreciate with Tescos that you get Clubcard points which you can then convert to Avios)

It's easier to keep personal Avios accounts because you'd have to split them again to make a transfer. Each try a small transfer over to BA Exec and see how it works, confirmation email etc then you'll know your all set. We already had a Tesco MasterCard with clubcard no. incorporated for buying at Non Amex stores and the M/card miles and clubcard miles all show on the same rewards statement - We auto convert. We also haveTesco Mobiles.
You're well on the way - maximise with double dipping - eshop via Avios - say YES to survey opportunities - good luck!

At the moment Avios are running a promo where you can get 1000 bonus miles if you collect from somewhere you haven't collected before. It runs on both Avios and BAEC.

So if you have 2 Avios accounts and 2 BAEC accounts between you then you should be able to earn 4000 extra avios fairly easily, by transfering from Amex Membership Rewards, or buying something through one of their shopping partners. Annoyingly, survey partners don't count.

We bought a takeaway from Hungry House last night - should give us 70 Avios and trigger the 1000 extra on one of the accounts
