My daughter had her eyes tested at about 18 months. They use pictures and colours at that age rather than letters. We either went to spec savers or boots, but I can’t remember which one.

My DD was tested at a normal opticians age 3 because we had concerns. I asked on FB for recommendations for a child and went to local independent one. She was amazing with my DD. DD ultimately then spent the next four years going to the eye hospital every six weeks but her first apt was at a regular opticians.

Although with my youngest I asked our GP for a referral due to family history (& her sisters issues) and she was referred directly to the eye hospital and monitored there until she was five.

Yes they will do them at most opticians. My ds has been under eye care from 7 months due to a visual impairmemt. He got his first glasses at 2. They will refer if needed to an NHS clinic who can use drops to dilate the pupil

DD has a rare genetic confition which among other things affects the eyes so has been at opticians since around 1 year old, its very clever how much info they can get just by looking into the eyes etc.

Ask your health visitor to refer him to orthoptist due to family history.

Yes, I've a lazy eye so had all mine tested at around 12 - 18 months, DS3 is the only one who needed glasses and had them at 20 months.

We went to an independent opticians.

My children are in their 20's now, but when they were babies I mentioned to the Health Visitor that my husband has bad eyesight (-11) and my dad had limited sight in one eye. She got them a referral to the hospital and they had eye tests there from 18 months to 5 years old.

Hi, I also spoke to the health visitor with regards to my children as I had a lazy eye as a child. All 3 were referred to the ophthalmologist at the hospital, my eldest and middle son were fine but my youngest son they discovered had good sight in one eye and poor sight in the other. He had glasses from about two years old and had patching for his poor eye. He is now 11 and still wears glasses but the sight in the poor eye is so much better than what it was. I would definitely call the health visitor and ask them.
