Poly v GF

Just after some opinions. Looking to book 2 nights on site at Christmas (24 + 25 December). We want to stay near MK, and both GF and Poly are available via WDW at the moment.

Due to the uncertainties with travel, I want a flexible booking, so WDW with £200 deposit and rest payable later seems a good option, plus it’s fully cancellable if needed.

We are a family of 4 (kids 15+13). Which would you choose? The Poly is £200 cheaper.

Both fantastic locations, for me it'd come down to which theming you prefer.

I'd probably opt for the GF as that gingerbread house is amazing, we were at Cooper Creek December 2019 and going into reception first thing in the morning before the hoards arrived to see the tree and gingerbread cabin was really very special, I'd love to see the GF one without the crowds.

Thanks 😊. I must admit, the gingerbread house is a big pull. Can you now walk to MK from GF? I think they were putting a walkway in.

While neither are my first choice for the MK area (that belongs to WL) I would choose Poly over GF. I don't like the vibe and style of GF. It's also likely to be far more crowded in the public spaces at Christmas due to the gingerbread display. Not that Poly is quiet, but less in demand over the holidays. The new Moana rooms look fun too if you're fans.

ETA: Yes you can walk from GF to MK now. And also from Poly to GF (once the construction is finished).

You can, and that's VERY attractive!

We'll be there (fingers crossed) in February, really looking to using the walkway after a day at MK.

I have only stayed at GF of the two and even before then I definitely preferred the GF vibe. The Polynesian when I have visited has always been utter bedlam which has put us off a bit. That said, I am coming round to the idea of trying the Poly out soon because I like the newly refurbed rooms and then I will have tried all of the MK resorts.

The GF walkway is open, although I watched a “live” vlog of the walk the other day and it was a good twenty to twenty five minutes. Still that would t be too bad in December and maybe preferable to waiting for transport.

Overall, I think I would opt for the GF, I expect the lobby looks wonderful at Christmas time.

Is the Contemporary available. We stayed there over Christmas in 2018. It was cheaper than GF and we had a theme park view. Most magical Disney stay ever.

The contemporary also has its own security which was worth its weight in gold as was the 5 minute or so stroll to MK on Christmas morning etc.

I would pick the Poly, GF feels much busier I think and the outside area has everyone taking a gander at the pool area whereas it felt ever so slightly more private at the Poly plus the Moana themed rooms would be a draw for me.

Unfortunately the Contemporary isn’t showing as available. We stayed at Bay Lake Tower a couple of years ago, and agree that the 5 minute walk was great. However, we’d like to try one of the other hotels next time.

We’ve stayed at both and much prefer the Poly. However, for Christmas I’d choose GF…great Christmas theming and a short walk to and from MK. The monorail is packed over Christmas.
