Excel help
Hi everyone
Are there any excel experts that can help me. I have set up a to do list on excel very basic - task, completion date , comments and a column for open or closed. What I would like at the top of the spreadsheet is to show how many are open and closed So example 40 items of the list and 30 are open and 10 are closed so a bit like a dashboard Is this possible?

You need to use the countif function,
so if your data for open/closed is in column A =Countif(A:A,"Open") will give the number of open items and if you change Open to Closed it will give the closed items (assuming that in column A you have entered Open or Closed as the text. Just change A:A to the letter of the column you have put open/closed in. |

And just because I happen to have Excel open, here's an example... together with a pie chart, because who doesn't love a pie chart:
Cell C1 has the function COUNTIF(D:D,"Open"). So this will count all the cells with "Open" in column D. Cell C2 has the function COUNTIF(D:D,"Closed"). I've also added conditional formating to add a bit of colour. The red is a bit to strong and highlights the stuff that hasn't been done more than the stuff that has, which probably isn't a good idea.
