Mobile Virgin Holidays ridiculous cancellation fee!

Someone from VH has finally contacted me this afternoon. I filled the form in at least 2 months ago, have whats apped twice and filled the form again after their most recent email.
Anyhow to cancel our holiday due to go to POR on 22nd July it will apparently cost me over £5000!
She was determined the plane would be going and that it wouldn't make any difference if fco still had essential travel only.
Obviously I can't now cancel, so asked her to give me a quote for next year.
If I book hotel and tickets for disney with wduk, cabana bay with booking.com and universal tickets with attraction tickets.com then the difference between all this separately and as a package with virgin is £4023.36.
This seems an awful lot for the three of us for flights (one child).
What are my best options?

The FCO is only one obstacle. Tourists aren't currently allowed into the USA.
Is that likely to change? No one obviously knows but the CV cases in Florida are rapidly rising.
They cant ignore FCO. Is that likely to be lifted any Tims soon? Who knows but I think it is becoming less likely to the US each day.

I would be waiting until they have to cancel - in my opinion quite likely.

Utter useless company and I wouldn't be giving them another penny.

Have you checked your insurance policy? Our allow us to cancel and claim if the FCO advice is still is place 31 days prior to travel, if yours is the same its only a couple of days away and you may be able to cancel with Virgin, but claim the remainder of the loss on your travel policy

Just wait for the inevitable cancellation...

at the end of the day you have bought a flight and a hotel from them - in the very unlikely event that they are able to deliver that they are not at fault, as much as you might feel that - the fact you dont want to go is another matter entirely unfortunately.

Can you amend to a fly drive For 2021? That tends to be the cheapest option and then you can still add on your DIY elements.

I would wait it out for another week or two, or reschedule for a flydrive(no add on for additional car insurance eithet) to just basic package, who says you have to book whole lot with them at highly inflated prices!

The USA Canada border is closed until July 21st, if there not accepting Canadians I very much doubt they will accept brits.

We're flying from Manchester, well we were, our flight is cancelled but the earlier one is still going but no seats are available. I would keep an eye on the flights as I think they may well get cancelled as the days pass.
