New England road trip - route all booked!
Hi all,
So I’ve finally booked all of our hotels for our New England road trip, and I wondered if anyone had stayed in any of these hotels, or if they had any touring advice for me and my family (we are travelling with our two boys who will be 14 & 11)? 3 nights - NYC staying at the Novotel Times Square (we haven’t stayed in this hotel before, but have stayed in Times Square and like being in the heart of it all!) Then a Train from Penn Station to Boston Back Bay. Lunch at the Cheesecake Factory before collecting a hire car to drive to Waterbury, Vermont 2 nights - Best Western Plus Waterbury (walking distance to the Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream factory) 4 nights - Christmas Farm Inn, Jackson, New Hampshire (planning to go river tubing and water rafting from here) 3 nights - Anchorage by the sea, Ogunquit, Maine 2 nights - Colonade Hotel, Back Bay, Boston 1 night - Inn at Mystic, Connecticut 5 nights - Bayside Resort, West Yarmouth, Cape Cod. The reason we are going back to Boston rather than staying there when we arrive on the train, is because we are hoping to watch a Red Sox game and those were the only home fixtures that coincided with our dates, hence the going back and forth. Anyone with any experiences of these hotels/locations? Aside from NYC, these are all new places for us all. |

I know Waterbury well. As you sat it's the original home of Ben & Jerry's. I remember standing at teh station at 5a.m. in the morning waiting for an Amtrak service to Montreal, Canada on a day trip.
I can't comment on any of your specific accommodation choices but I think you'll find that New England do it well. Everywhere we stayed was truly homely Edited at 03:49 PM. |

We are also doing New England this summer (in and out of Boston). We aren't staying in any of the same places though.
Sounds like you have a great trip planned! We are looking forward to ours!

Just googled Waterbury - it looks lovely! We are about 30 minutes up the road on the other side of Stowe on a horse farm! B & J factory is certainly on the list of things to do!

Thanks everyone - I’m getting quite excited again now. I have been planning it so long that I keep stopping and forgetting about it for a while & then remember and get excited again! It’s a long time since I’ve been to a new part of the states, as I keep returning to favourite places!

I just booked the last part - 6 nights in Plymouth. This means we can do a day or two in Boston and also Cape Cod!
Somehow I have managed 4 different houses in four different states

We stayed in the Colonnade. Had a nice stay and it’s centrally located. Opposite is the Cheesecake Factory and shopping centre. The Metro is outside. If you turn left there is a really nice cafe.
We loved the Bayside. It’s a really nice and comfortable place and serves a nice buffet breakfast. The best bit for me was sitting on the chairs by the water’s edge after breakfast watching the boats and paddle boards go by, while we enjoyed our coffee. Definitely want to return there. Happy planning!

We had 3 nights in Boston in September. We found the city easy to navigate and walk around. Did all the usual sights. The Duck Tour was good fun and gave us a good overview of the City on our first morning. The stop is outside the Prudential Centre. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory and Maggianos which were both very good. We had 4 nights at Bayside. It was quiet in September so we managed to get seats around the fire pit at night which was interesting to chat to other visitors. The chairs in the beach were very relaxing and the continental breakfast was great. We loved Cape Cod highlights being the whale watching trip and Martha's Vineyard. Have a fantastic trip!
