Do your research well - if you can run a villa for twelve months... all expenses, management, mortgage etc without needing to rent out then it is a realistic option. If not then don't touch it... just read through villa related threads on here to see what folks are paying to rent and what they expect from Owners and you will have some idea just what is actually involved in running a villa from 5,000 miles away.
Be careful... just my opinion.

Carol has given you some very good advice, you need to be sure you can run a home for at least 12 months with no rental income.
Have a read of theses threads below they will give you some idea f what the costs of owning and renting a villa are. http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/show...buying+a+villa http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/show...# post9023426 If you want to read more just do a search for buying a villa using the search box at the top of the dibb menu.
