All the planning could be ruined - UPDATE
So as you can see from my countdown we're due to go fairly soon!
This is a surprise trip, the children think we are going to Spain This morning, the youngest (2 years old) has come out in Chicken Pox 😱 Whilst these would be healed by the time we are due to go, my other 2 children (age 5 and 8) still haven't had them. I'm gutted, shed a few tears this morning that the months of planning could be gone down the drain There's a chance they may not get them, but the not knowing is worse We should be skipping around with just a few weeks to go, now we will now be able to get excited at all, or we may even get there then be trapped in the room with a spotty child 😭 There are worse things in the world, of course there are, but right now I'm truly gutted 💔

Oh no what a nightmare for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your other two don't get them or if they do it's in the next few days

is it too late to vaccinate them I wonder. I vaccinated mine when 1 year old and they were ok after contact with kids with chicken pox

My youngest son came out in spots exactly two weeks before we were due to fly. I was spending lots of time 'talking' to people here and on the US boards about what I needed to do about cancelling the trip (as my eldest has never had the chicken pox). Whilst I was chatting to some Americans about what I'd had to do about cancelling my DVC timeshare accommodation, I just happened to be talking to a US Pediatrician who told me about a medication called acyclovir which in many cases can stop people catching chicken pox (it's used a lot for those will low immune systems for whom catching chicken pox can be extremely dangerous).
Anyway, I booked an appointment with my GP, and before I could even say the name of the drug, he knew exactly what I meant and prescribed it for my son! It was a bit of a pain as if I remember correctly he had to take tablets five times a day for about a week, but he didn't get CP! He was a bit older than your children (9 at the time), so had no problem taking the tablets, and it definitely worked for us. I hope things work out for you. ETA ours was a surprise trip too as we were telling them on Christmas Day and flying out the day after Boxing Day, and as you say, whilst you know there are worse things going on in the world, you can't help but feel upset and gutted - I pray it all works out for you xx Edited at 08:33 AM. |

Chicken Pox
The incubation period is seven to 21 (usually 10 to 21) days after exposure to the herpes varicella-zoster virus to the development of the symptoms. The disease is most contagious a day or two before the rash appears and until the rash is completely dry and scabbed over, about five to six days after onset of the rash. Fingers Crossed Disney332

Sorry to hear this, fingers crossed they'll be ok. This is the thing I'm having nightmares about at the moment as youngest DS hasn't had them yet!

Oh no! This is my nightmare, we don't go until September but I keep thinking james will get them! What kind of travel insurance do you need to cover this? Would it be annual?
