Sorry this happened to you OP, such a shock. I must say that (living on a main road) it's the last thing I check at night that all 4 of our keys are in their pouches. My pouch is always in my bag and the one place I will always take a moment to put the key in is at the supermarket in case I am followed while I shop.

At about £8 for a pair of pouches, It's annoying that the garage doesn't just give out a pair with your new car.

They are generally stolen to be stripped for parts that are then sold on eBay to innocent buyers.

Popular models to steal include VW Golf GTI/R, Audi S3/R3. In some areas of the country these will be stolen within weeks of purchase!

Worst thing ever invented keyless cars. A few of my friends had there’s done and 1 friend had his done when the thieves drove past and scanned it while they were getting the shopping out the car.
I would get a car steering wheel lock or a hand break/gear stick lock as if they do get into your car they wouldnt be able to drive it away. I would also put a camera in there linked to your phone.

Firstly, thank you everyone for your supportive comments.
Well, my car has been found. I got a phone call at 1.30 yesterday morning from the police to say it had been chased and abandoned down a farm track. They were with the car and the dogs were chasing the scumbags - unfortunately they didn’t get them.
The car was recovered and I had to take the keys yesterday, but as expected they didn’t work as it’s been reprogrammed. I couldn’t see it as it was in the forensics bay, but once CSI had done their thing she rang me to say car could be released. Apparently the only obvious damage is on the drivers front wing, but we’ll know more once it’s been assessed properly.
Must say that Direct Line have been great so far, they’ve arranged for it to be collected from the recovery location today and taken to a specialist garage. That garage have in turn rung me to clarify what will happen and to assure me as long as it’s repairable it’ll be like new when I get it back. Direct Line have confirmed that as it’s so new they’ll just replace with a new one if it’s written off. Feel like a weights been lifted!
Amongst other bits, there were 2 Disney face masks in the car that have been stolen, although they have left a big net full of footballs in the boot! Bizarre!

What are you going to do with it once it comes back - or the footballs ?! Do you get to keep them ?

It does make me think about how easy it is to reprogramme these things. Used to have Beetles growing up. Couldn't have got it to start to nick it in the first place, but it was an arcane art just to drive it. (And limited football space). Simpler times. Would rather have your car than a beetle now though.

Can’t wait to get it back! The footballs aren’t mine - the robbers left them there, together with kids football boots! Although they did take DS16s dirty rugby boots (why? ! ), & his new North Face coat - no shock there!
