I have no advice about keyless entry but I do have advice about the footballs. Remove them from the boot of your car.👍🏻 DH is a football coach and his car absolutely stinks because of the footballs.🤢 They are banned from the house and from being placed anywhere near my car.
On a more serious note, I hope that when you get your car back that it’s like new and you have no further issues. 👍🏻 |

Hi, the footballs weren’t ours, the thieves had left them in there which was very bizarre! The police have removed them, together with football boots, goalie gloves and a bedsheet, none of which were ours!

The manufacturers are moving to put accelerometers in them so if your key is not moved, the signal switches off. Relay theft will then be a thing of the past.
However, there is a mistaken belief that it must be relay theft. It often is not. I saw an Audi A5 being stolen on CCTV only a few weeks ago and relay theft was assumed beforehand, but it was not- an electronic device was used to open the car door, and then what looks like an OBD port programmer was used to reprogramme the car, start it up and drive away. Nothing to do with the key signal being relayed.

I work in the Insurance industry and car crime has rocketed since certain "features" were added to cars.
For some cars it is almost as bad as it was in the late 80's and early 90's! I can't believe we are back to having steering wheel locks on cars! in 2019 the most stolen car was the Range Rover Sport Range Rover Sport BMW X5 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Range Rover Vogue Land Rover Discovery BMW X6 Range Rover Evoque BMW 3 Series Range Rover Autobiography Mercedes-Benz E-Class |

New Range Rovers have the accelerometer keys so thankfully are now much harder to steal.
Thefts have increased substantially. We had the relay thefts, and increased fraud which meant that pre Covid, many insurers were saying profits were being badly hit by first party theft claims. Then Covid which has resulted in more thefts both genuine and fraudulent. We will see even more fraud when economic times get harder. Insurers have also been caught napping with fraud to also commit GAP fraud. Also you’ll see more laundering on high value vehicles- often bought cash supposedly, then stolen, often by people with no visible forms of income. Proof of funds? Don’t rely on the FOS to back you up always.
