I do think he is being taken advantage of. In today’s workplace though it might be best to just put up with it for as long as he can. Unscrupulous employers shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it though. I wonder if all the employees are treated the same or are some better at avoiding these late jobs that come in ?
I misunderstood. I thought the OP wanted her husband to get paid for his travel time.

Thanks again for all your replies. No we only wants what is fair. I do understand that your are never paid for travelling time. But to be sent back into london at 4pm, and expect the job to be done and get back to the yard, by 6, is impossible.
It is so sad that employers can get away with anything today, because they know people need the work and money. Well we have decided that he will leave after August.
Yes he is 60, but very healthy and fit. And really its a shame that he has to leave a job at that age, but why be taken for granted all the time.
