Question Additional Guests in Townhouse / TUI Car hire

Not been on here for a while as been holidaying in Turkey for a few years but now have the itch to return in October 2020.

Depending on where we travel from (Manchester or Glasgow), there are a couple of issues we need to negate around the outlaws not wanting the journey to manchester;

1, If we booked a townhouse with 3 bed (say on Vista Cay) with Thomas Cook, flying from Manchester, if the outlaws joined us under their own steam, would that create any issues with the accommodation / resort?

2, TUI have holidays from Glasgow, searching for 6 people, we get the 'free' hire car but the small print indicates that it maybe 2 smaller cars, not 1 larger car - the FIL wouldnt want to drive over there, so we would need a 6+ seater - unless we upgrade by about £450, we cant seem to guarantee that (will use my own UK purchased excess insurance) - anyone any experience of larger groups and 'free' hire car allocation?

We've booked our townhouse through debbiesvillas. When we booked we enquired if there would be issues should some friends come and join us for a week. They were happy that as long as the maximum occupancy wasnt breached there wouldn't be an issue. It might be worth checking with your tour operator though

As villa owners we have all guests named on the booking form .
Guess you need to check with Thomas Cook

Thanks both, we have not long been in a TA whom were 'selling' the TC holiday to Vista and they 'thought' it would be OK for them to make their own travel arrangements and join us but wouldnt want to risk it, hence asking if anyone else had done it.

TBH, preference would be all of us fly from Glasgow but then that brings the car hire issue to light, unless we can guarantee that we would get a car big enough for the 6 of us, may have to ditch the 'free' option and go via Alamo - but as I can use UK purchased car hire excess cover, using the included hire care is cheaper.

Have you looked to see how much it would be booked independently?

There are some car hire experts on here but speaking from my own experience with TUI:- there were 3 of us, all adults, but the "free" car was really for 2 adults plus 1 child so probably wouldn't have taken us and luggage! We used Alamo/Brits website and got a Nissan Pathfinder for a very similar price to the insurance only on the "free" car.
Not sure where you live but we are flying from Newcastle with TUI on 30th September so not sure if that would be an option for you?

Based on flight costs just now (£792 + £70 per bag), £1500 for accommodation (quick look on townhouses on owners sites), car hire @ 600 - then its more expensive to do as indy.

We may have to wait until more flights are released and / or reduce in price and then book independently.

I would make sure that your relatives names are included in the list of guests staying in the accomodation you choose to cover you for insurance purposes with the owner.

OP. The 'excess' insurance you mention isn't needed in America. There is no excess on rental cars.

What you do need is full CDW and $1.000.000 SLI. Even then the car hire company will charge you for taxes, airport user fees, environmental fees etc etc. Circa $100/150 +/-

Not sure if it solves the car hire problem but if there is only one named driver they can't allocate you 2 cars IYKWIM
