Broadband Speed

I am with BT and it appears they have changed the cabinet today that is not far from where I live. Maybe 400 yards?

Anyhow. I am showing 75.2MBS to the Hub and 38.5MBS within the house. Is this any good please as it seems better than it was.

Tom

I am showing 53 download and 11 upload to laptop.

30 and 11 on PC next to hub.

Both are connected via wifi rather than linked to hub.

Your readings sound pretty good, especially the direct connection.

Hi Tom you are on fiber, 75mbs at router is good, I’m on Sky fiber max and get 80mbs. The further away from the router the speed will drop. If you are with bt you are probably on their top package with fiber.

The speed to the hub is great but your Wi Fi might be poor. Try a "hard wire" connection between computer and router to see if it improves.

By comparison we get 218 MB download on our Wi Fi. (Virgin Media)

we are relatively close to the exchange so normal sky broadband here has been okay

(a modest but constant 2)

but just upgraded to fibre and they say when connected it will be around 34...

so looks like you are doing well tom.

Thank you everybody who has responded. I thought things had improved today albeit it would have been nice if they told me what they were doing before they cut me off!

I love BT for their product however I detest their incompetent Indian call centre! But having haggled a great discount with them they can keep me for another year.

have had my fair share of issues with BT but one thing I like about them is they seem to empower all call centre staff to a certain degree flexibility in negotiating with customers.

When I renewed with BT in July they first offered me £1 (ONE) pound off their usual monthly rate and eventually i got that increased to £6 off. My usual monthly bill for unlimited broadband, any time phone calls (excl to mobiles) and BT Sport is around £55. That's for a download speed of around 3.8 Mb/s which is paradise compared with the 0.75 my neighbours achieve. Now I've had an email telling me of their price increase in January which will add another £5 month to my bill so I'm looking round to switch. Trouble is the Openreach site says I can have fibre when my village hasn't been fibre'ised yet (the adjoining village where our exchange is situated has been 'done') so when I tried Sky for a quote they would only offer me a fibre service! I can get a similar package from Talk Talk and including free calls to mobiles for £26 month but the reports about their service are abysmal. Which mag recommends Utility Warehouse but again web reviews say different. Do I chance a poorer line speed (the customer service can't be much worse than BT) for the sake of £30 month less?

Openreach don’t go on exchanges they go on the green box you are connected to. They wouldn’t let us order fiber till the green box went active.

BT are absolutely pants.

My internet keeps tripping out routinely. We have had about 17 engineer visits this year so far. They all report no fault.

I rang Sunday to report an increase to the tripping and was told they would ring back. Took my mob number.

Good job i am not holding my breath... no call yet.

Absolute rubbish service and they want me to upgrade to fibre optic.

I would rather push needles under my toe nails.
