Can someone please recommend me a laptop!

Hi - my laptop completely packed up about a year ago, so DH bought me an Acer Aspire cloudbook, just for general internet stuff. Problem is, tbh it's probably no better than my ipad except for the bigger screen, and can't even play basic FB games, like Candy Crush etc.
I don't need a laptop for anything fancy, just occasional documents, browsing but I do need it to use Zwift, which for those that don't know is a brilliant virtual cycling programme where you can link your turbo trainer to your computer and race thousands of people around the world! The minimum requirements for this are:-

OS: Windows 7 x64 bit, OSX 10.8.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo.
Memory: 4GB.
Graphics: 1GB dedicated GPU, or embedded Intel HD 4000/AMD R5.
Hard Drive: 4GB of free space.

I'm having to borrow DD13's computer every time I want to go on there, so want to treat myself to a new laptop. I love the look of the Apple Macbooks but not sure I can justify the expense - are they really worth it? I have an iphone and ipad and do love apple but worry about it going out of date once it stops updating. My ipad is from 2012 and no longer updates but it doesn't really matter for what I need it for. Ideally I wouldn't want to spend more than about £600. I know I won't get a Macbook for that, but would like something that looks like it, ie slimline etc

These look good for the money... been looking at these to replace my five year old HP laptop which has performed well, but needs replacing soon.

Spookily, that is the exact one I’ve just been looking one on currys website and thought it seemed quite cheap! I’m a total technophobe and know I won’t use half the stuff a computer can do but don’t want to buy one and then find I can’t use it for the one thing I need it for!

Good value, in my opinion, for a Core i5 processor. Has all the spec you should need for home use.

Just need to be mindful it won’t have full versions of Word, Excel etc, if those are important to you price them up before you buy.

We’ve got Office 2010 that we can use on three different computers that seems to be enough for what I need it for. I spend most of my day on the computer at work, and do most personal emails on my phone. Kids use PowerPoint etc on theirs for homework but it’s all wasted on me! Thanks for your help, it’s much appreciated

Try looking at these

Not as pretty as a MacBook; but they are pretty much bullet proof, they are a little older (you could search for a t440 or t530 for newer or bigger) but as they are generally ex business laptops they still perform very well, (mine runs sims fairly well!)

That is a fairly basic requirement and a lot less than basic entry laptops nowadays so any new one should do the job easily. I certainly wouldn't waste my no at buying an Apple product though.

ebuyer always good for laptop deals

you can tweak the search minimum RAM etc etc, as above its quite low spec so any decent one will cope

I absolutely love my MacBook, and couldn't be without it now. I did buy it when I was technically still a student so I did get some money off. It is so light and so fast and I love how it interacts with my phone and my texts and calls come through to it if I don't have my phone with me. Also, if I am looking at a website on my phone I can pick it up on my laptop too.
I do totally understand that they aren't for everyone though.

I don't know much about laptop specs but we have just been given new laptops at work, they are Lenovo ThinkPads and I love that too. It boots up really quickly, it is really lightweight too so I no longer get shoulderache when carting it around. It is touchscreen which is more of a novelty that anything, but yeah I really like it for a PC

on a similar tip, i would personally go for the ultrabook models instead. you can pick up an lenovo X220 for £100-£200 refurbished (price depends on spec) or even possibly an x230 or x240 for only a little bit more. bombproof units that still have a good few years of life left in them (these things are £1500+ when new) - ive got an x201 still in use that is 7+ years old now (starting to show its age though) and an x240 (which replaced the 201 as my main work machine)
