Drivers licence help

I am not the named main driver for the hire car but an additional driver
My licence is old school paper, will this be ok?
I know they don't like this as a main driver but not sure about additional

They don't have any problem with this as a main driver either. The only thing to remember is you will need photo ID with you at all times in the car as well.

Paper is fine, you must carry you passport with you every time you drive. You need a valid photo ID to drive here, that's your passport, because you won't have a photo on the paper.

If you have the official plastic card license, you don't need a passport at all. You only need the passport if you have the old paper license with no photo. The passport is needed to prove who you are, if you already have a photo they can just look at you.

I would just apply for a photo card licence. It saves you having to take your passport with you every time you drive. My wife changed from the old paper licence to a photo card about 6 months ago. It cost her £20 and did it all online. She didn't even need to send them a photo as they can used the one from her passport.

We have hired cars with the old paper licence with no issues at all, just means you need to carry your passport with you every time you drive. Having said that, I've just this minute applied for the photo card licences for both me and my husband as his paper one is looking really tatty now and is torn. It means we can leave our passports safely locked away.
