You don’t need to throw what you don’t eat away, as long as it’s not meat, fruit etc just declare it and take it off with you.

Ive always taken food from home including sandwiches, don't like plane food although I'll have a nibble at it, we don't like pre packaged sandwiches either so make my own, took some last time in 2016 to New York no problems

I always take snack bags from home for the kids, including on Virgin - that live chat person doesn't know what they're talking about! The no liquids is obvious but this could also include things like yoghurt and some 'paste' type foods eg. peanut butter.

We make a little bag up for the kids with some snacks in, crisps, sweets a sandwich etc. half the time they eat it before we even get on the plane let alone 8 hours of flying, but you can bring in things (except meat/dairy etc) to america as long as you declare them.

To add to this the first time we went we were 2 hours in the security queue at MCO and my youngest was crying because he was so thirsty and we didn't have a drink for him. So now we buy a couple of extra bottles of water airside and save them for the kids to have a drink if they are thirsty in the queue. Always take some snacks etc on the plane and never any problems

Great tip about getting some drinks ready for the queue when we get off the plane- I’m going to do this!

Yes I did think it was strange! It’s great I can bring some bits from home!
