If buying a physical product in a store in a sale, you know they will have offered the product for sale at the stated higher price before (even though some will semi-artificially do that by having the product in a minimum number of stores for the minimum period of time in order to meet the legal obligation).

So, say, Currys advertising a sale on a TV for £499 that was £699 means you know they did sell it for £699 in the past.

Airlines don't have fixed prices for flights. BA don't say "We are reducing our £699 return to Orlando in August to £499 in our sale" - it just doesn't work like that. Flight prices fluctuate by the day, even by the hour based on a huge number of factors, many of which the consumer will have no awareness of at all.

If I had a pound for every time someone on here said they were waiting for a particular airline sale only to find when the supposed sale began the flights they wanted were either exactly the same price or had even gone up, I'd be a very rich man indeed.

I do with BA because I can usually get a decent price for CW during their sales, as I’m flexible with dates.

Our flight + hotel deal has gone up by over £300.

That's the last time I'll check too!

We booked flights yesterday and one nights hotel for Japan next year (therefore only paid a deposit). I looked just now and it’s £706 more expensive today and that’s coming back economy instead of PE as it’s not available to chose now. What a price difference!

I have no expectations for our trip to actually go ahead though.

I have just re-checked my flights after reading this post and they have gone up by £924 from booking last week.
I just booked because the price was right, I hadn't realised there was a sale on until afterwards.

The flights I booked on the last day of the sale are now about £300 dearer. Not a massive difference in price but £300 is £300. (More spends for me.😉 ) They might drop below what I paid but I’m happy with the price I paid so I guess that’s the main thing.😊
