Pre Trip Report California October 2020
I usually only do a post trip report but this might help some people, as I see a lot of questions about California / LA / Hollywood / Disneyland.
Background I am a solo traveler from Dublin. I have been doing versions of this trip since 2009. I do a split stay, the first part in LA /Hollywood and then transfer to Anaheim for Disneyland. I travel solo, meet up with friends in LA /Hollywood and then go solo to Disneyland. I don't drive and use public transport to get around My itinerary this year is Sunday June 21 - Fly to LAX Need to book hotel in Hollywood Need to book shuttle to hotel Monday June 22 TBC Tuesday June 23 TBC Wednesday June 24 TBC Thursday June 25 TBC Friday June 26 TBC Saturday June 27 Transfer to Anaheim Need to book train to Anaheim Need to buy Disneyland Tickets Need to book restaurants in Disneyland Need to buy ART bus ticket Sunday June 28 Disneyland Monday June 29 Disneyland Tuesday June 30 Disneyland Wednesday 1 July Disneyland Thursday 2 July Depart LAX Need to book shuttle to airport Friday 3 July Arrive Dublin What I have booked Flights Aer Lingus direct from Dublin to LAX Smart Fare 10kg carry on bag Small personal carry on bag eg handbag or laptop bag 23kg checked bag Seat Selection at the time of booking For my Dublin to LAX flight I just chose a standard seat, no extra charge For my LAX to Dublin flight I chose priority boarding and Choice seat which was €59.99 extra charge Price Breakdown Flight = €690 Taxes and Charges = €108.08 Admin fee = €18 Priority Boarding & Seat = €59.99 Total = €876. 07 Anaheim Hotel Kings Inn Anaheim Total for 5 nights = $712 Possible Suggestions for Things To Do In LA / Hollywood As I have been going to LA / Hollywood for the last 10 years, I have been to many of the main tourist spots. This year I am planning to do a hop on hop off bus tour. I have done this before but it was back in 2010. Another thing I want to do this year is spend a day in Santa Monica. Santa Monica is one of my favorite parts of LA, but I don't go here very year. Its been maybe 4 years since I was last in Santa Monica. I usually only spend a few hours in the morning at Hollywood Boulevard / Walk of Fame. Its not my favorite place to be, I just go here to go to Hollywood and Highland shopping mall and Hard Rock Cafe. I usually spend about 2 days with my friends. We usually just go shopping, go to a restaurant or bar in their local area or just chill out in their apartment. Its too soon yet to co ordinate with my friends to plan which days this year I will meet up with them. Once I know which days my friends are free, then I can plan my other LA /Hollywood days. Edited at 08:43 PM. Reason: Rescheduled To October 2020 |

Big News
I have now rescheduled to October 2020 So now my new dates are Sunday 18 October - Fly to LAX Hotel in Hollywood now rebooked at no extra charge Need to book shuttle to hotel Monday October 19 TBC Tuesday October 20 TBC Wednesday October 21 TBC Thursday October 22 TBC Friday October 23 TBC Saturday October 24 Transfer to Anaheim Need to book train to Anaheim 3 Day 1 Park Tickets, No MaxPass Need to book restaurants in Disneyland Sunday October 25 Disneyland Monday October 26 Disneyland Tuesday October 27 Disneyland Wednesday October 28 Disneyland Thursday October 29 Depart LAX Need to book shuttle to airport Friday October 30 Arrive Dublin Flights Aer Lingus direct from Dublin to LAX Smart Fare 10kg carry on bag Small personal carry on bag eg handbag or laptop bag 23kg checked bag Seat Selection at the time of booking For my Dublin to LAX flight I just chose a standard seat, no extra charge For my LAX to Dublin flight I chose priority boarding and Choice seat which was €59.99 extra charge Price Breakdown Flight = €690 Taxes and Charges = €108.08 Admin fee = €18 Priority Boarding & Seat = €59.99 Total = €876. 07 Hollywood Hotel Total for 6 nights = $665.29 Anaheim Hotel Desert Inn and Suites Total for 5 nights = $679.77 So now I will get to see Disneyland at Halloween. I know it will be a very different trip to my usual June trip to California. I'm expecting temperature checks and facemasks, As we have seen in the last 24 hours with the Walt Disney World reopening plan,I'm expecting things like fireworks, parades, character meet and greets will be suspended or changed. I'm expecting restaurants to have limited capacity and limited openings. I'm expecting rides and attractions to have limited capacity and limited openings. Right now I just want to be in Disneyland and I am totally fine with whatever restrictions and new procedures Disney implement in order to open. For the LA part of my trip I just want to see my friends and relax and chill after all the crazyness of the last few months. I'm not bothered about the touristy LA things, I have done so much over the last 10 years anyway. Edited at 03:23 PM. |

It's good to have something arranged after the disappointment of original cancellation. Sounds really exciting. I've been watching The Daily Woo recently now he's back in LA.

UPDATE
Right, Ive been following all the updates for Walt Disney World and the ticket situation has got me spooked. I know there are lots of people now who have hotels and flights booked for Walt Disney World but who had not bought tickets yet. Now that Walt Disney World is reopening, they have suspended sales of new tickets and will be giving priority to people who have existing tickets for the new park reservation system. I don't want to end up in the same situation for Disneyland California , so I have just bought a 3 day 1 park ticket and linked it in My Disney Account. In California the reopening news is very limited. The Task Force meetings are not streamed online, unlike Florida, so we will not get any warning or rumor of what the plans will be. It will just be boom an up date on Disney Parks Blog that Disneyland will be reopening on such a date. My ticket is valid until January 2022, so even things don't go according to plan and I have to reschedule to after Christmas, my ticket is still valid for 2021. I did not add Maxpass onto the ticket. Depending on the reopening restrictions and new procedures, I may have to add it when I get there. In previous years I have not used Maxpass and have just used the free Fastpass kiosks in the parks. I feel a bit more relived right now, now that I see the ticket in the Disneyland App. The Walt Disney World ticket situation really spooked me. Everything is so uncertain right and I just need to be a bit more prepared than normal. |

Following this thread now, thanks for the link! For months I’ve not been able to get excited about our trip but now (fingers crossed/touch wood)
I *might* begin to get a little excited and dig out the old planning folder! 😍 |
