Aer Lingus - Refund experiences on cancelled flights.

Ours were cancelled 17 days before departure date.

YAY! just had an email from Aer Lingus telling me me a refund has been issued.
Only(lol) taken just under 9 weeks.

AL have a new computer system in place better able to cope with the volumes and seem to be much more on top of the problems they had earlier with refund and voucher requests.

They are governed by EU directive which specifically states if they cancel, they must provide a refund within 7 days. If they offer a voucher, you are entitled to refuse and request a refund but only if they cancel your flight/s.

They also have some new options when it comes to booking eg smart fare includes free changes and voucher if you dont want to travel (restrictions apply) OR advanatge are includes refund if you dont want to travel.
Different fare levels and prices dependant upon what your circs are.

So a quick update:

We applied for our refund on 21st September.
(Deposit & final payment were on 2 different cards. Apparently this complicates a refund?)
Decided to ring today to see where we were at. Got a very pleasant lady on the telephone who went through a few details & then processed our repayment whilst I was on the phone.

So... fingers crossed the money should be back in the bank very soon!

Except for the delay (which I do understand given the year that’s in it), I’ve no complaints at all with the service we’ve received!

Now... if the world could return to normal for our planned 3 week trip April 2022, I’d be grateful!
